Common signs of oral disease include tartar build-up, redness, bleeding or swollen gums, bad breath, and changes in eating or chewing behavior.
It is recommended at least once a year, the reason being “bacteria” &“food debris” accumulation around your pet’s teeth if left unchecked, will lead to deterioration of the soft tissue and bone surrounding the teeth. This decay results in irreversible periodontal disease and even tooth loss. Furthermore, dental disease can affect other organs in the body: bacteria in the mouth can get into the bloodstream and may cause serious kidney infections, liver disease, lung disease, and heart valve disease. Oral disease can also indicate that another disease process is occurring elsewhere in your pet’s body. A thorough physical exam combined with appropriate laboratory work can determine if this is the case.
Our veterinarian will help you discover some preventative measures that you can follow at home. In addition, we also carry a variety of products that can be used in combination with a thorough dental cleaning to prevent or delay the build-up of plaque and tartar. This includes special Veterinary diet from Royal Canin especially for dental with the active ingredient being Sodium Phosphate, toothpaste and dental bars are also available.
